Another major step forward was taken yesterday in the development of Spain’s and possibly Europe’s largest themed tourist attraction as Premursa executed its option to purchase two out of the three contracts to buy the land for the future Paramount Theme Park at Alhama de Murcia.  In conjunction to the Theme Park will be a Lifestyle Centre, Hotels and Water Park.

Murcia Villas were delighted to assist A Place in the Winter Sun on their visit to Murcia last week and provide not one but two houses for their television programme.  TV Director, Luke Byrne, personally thanked Director Fiona James for her assistance with the programme after the clients had a “negative reaction” to the first property they visited in Mazarron through another agent.

In the New Year the Spanish Government has announced that they will maintain the reduced 4% VAT rate on the sale of new and key ready homes to further assist investment into the region.  We have been able to confirm this positive news with our legal department and with the Spanish tax authorities.

Murcia Mayor issues assurances on the Paramount Project

The Mayor of Alhama de Murcia has issued a statement saying “there is no going back for the Paramount Theme Park in Murcia”, and that the project already has investors in place.  In addition to the Mayors statement it has been officially announced that Proyectos Emblematicos Murcianos SA (PREMURSA), the promoter behind the Park, will be purchasing the land designated for the project at a cost of 15.8million euros in February 2012.

Could La Manga Club be sold again?

The British real estate fund has asked for a price for La Manga Club, the famous luxury golf resort was previously run by P&O before being taken over by the Med Group.

L&R is one of the largest private property companies in Europe with substantial investments, developments and business interests in over 7 countries, including the UK, Eire, Germany, Turks and Caicos, Ukraine, and Panama.  L&R already owns 62 hotels, including the Hilton Park Lane, The Hilton Trafalgar Square and The Hilton Green Park.

The director of La Manga Club, Antonio Ros has acknowledged that there have been discussions with L&R regarding the purchase of the Club.  L&G Properties is owned by Ian and Richard Livingstone who are reportedly interested in expanding their holdings in the Spanish Market.  La Manga Club applied for bankruptcy protection in 2009 after it was unable to finance its €97 million euro debt.

Breaking News on Paramount Theme Park in the wake of the October meeting

Executives from Paramount Licensing Inc, Including Vice President Michael Bartok, have announced that the construction of the theme park at Alhama de Murcia will go ahead. The announcement came following a final official presentation of the project to board executives in Madrid.

The project is expected to cost around 1.400 Million Euros and result in the creation of up to 23.000 new jobs.

The large 158 hectare site lies just 15 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches at Mazarron and the site will be divided into zones, each with movie inspired themes such as Star Trek, Titanic and Mission Impossible.  There will also be a Lifestyle Centre and 2 Five Star Hotels, in addition to 3 Four Star Hotels and a few more Three Star Hotels.  The Resort will also have themed shopping malls, restaurants, bars and clubs and an open air auditorium.

The theme park will be fully operational by 2015 and be in profit by 2018 with dividends being paid in to investors before 2025.

The News has been well received with the opening of the new Corvera Airport due in 2012 with an estimated 3 million passengers per year predicted to travel through the airport to visit the Park.

La Manga Club 20/20 Cricket weekend September 23^rd to 25^th 2012

La Manga Club will be the setting for a weekend of 20/20 cricket tournament of ten European teams from UK, Spain, Ireland and Belgium and a number of celebrities from the cricket and rugby world.

Murcia has been named as the top Spanish destination for investment, according to reports from TheMoveChannel.com.

The Spanish congress has recently passed a law encouraging the leasing of properties on the part of owners by making the eviction process much easier. Amongst other things, the new law speeds up the judicial process the owner is faced with when seeking an eviction or payment of rent due.

AENA (the Spanish Airports and Air Navigation public body) reported this week that nearly 95 million people passed through Spain’s airports in the first half of 2011, an 8.1% increase in passenger traffic and a 2.5% jump in the number of flights versus the first six months of last year.

It has been a bumpy ride for the past few years, but there is finally light at the end of the tunnel and Murcia is clearly on the fast track to a healthy economic future.

A new Italian restaurant has opened in the social centre at Mar Menor Golf Resort. 

The restaurant, called Ristorante-pizzeria La Fontana di Pietra, has a wonderful location, overlooking the community pool. The specialities include, as you might expect, excellent Italian cuisine and delicious takeaway pizzas. There is also a lovely terrace, where you can have an appetizer.

The restaurant is open from 12 noon to 11 p.m.
