Terra Mítica Theme Park, Benedrom is fun for all the family. It has various roller coasters and rides for all ages and constitutions! Plenty of cafés and restaurants offer refreshment throughout the day. It takes between an hour and a half and two hours to drive (each way), but the park is huge and certainly well worth the trip.

For those who enjoy history, Lorca is an ideal day out or even overnight stopover. Lorca is located around an hour from Mar Menor, and boasts several interesting tourist attractions.


First on the list is the Fortress of the Sun, constructed during the long Moorish occupation of Al Andaluz (what is now Southern Spain).

Here, you can enter the “time machine” and travel back in time to 1480. Discover more of Spain´s rich and vivid history through the videos and the actors  around the castle, who will tell you of life in those days.

Love them or hate them … Cartagena has a new shopping mall with all the designer names.  If you want to "shop ´til you drop" then visit Espacio Mediterraneo, on the way into Cartagena from San Javier/Los Alcazares side.  Shops include Zara, Punt Roma, Hennes, C&A and even Toys R Us.

Aquopolis, Torrevieja

Aquopolis, Torrevieja

A huge water park which has steadily grown over the years. This water park has many slides and attractions, including a 'slow river', a wave pool, infant lake and slides with encouraging names such as 'Black Hole' and 'Zig Zag'.  Fun for all!

The park is open from the start of June until the middle of September. From 11am until 7pm from 20 July until the 23rd August, and from 11am until 6pm at other times.

Prices:
Bizarrely, the entrance fee is based on your height! For adults (which, according to the park means anyone over 1.40 m and less than 65 years old), the price for a day pass is €21.50. Children (between 0.90m to 1.40m tall) and senior citizens get in for €16.50. Under 0.90m, and you get in for free, so feel free to take your hobbit along!

Cartagena is the second city of the Region of Murcia. What is lacks in size, it amply makes up for in history and interest - and tourist attractions. It has it´s own beach, excellent restaurants, festivals throughout the year, and museums - loads of museums! It is easy to get to by car and parking is easy. Alternatively, you can jump on a train in the village of Balsicas and be in the heart of Cartagena in less than 20 minutes - and the trains here are clean and cheap!
