Carthagineses and Romanos festival |
17th to 26th September, 2010.
The festival of Cartagena, commemorating the enmity between the Romans and the Carthagineses has been declared a festival of 'national touristic interest'. It consists of a week and a half of colourful, noisy and entertaining street spectacles with an estimated 5,500 Cartageneros (the modern name for the people of Cartagena) dressing up as either Romans or Carthagineses and taking to the streets...and bars.
Polish off your sandals and your bearskins, and get down and enjoy the fun. All are welcome to this celebration of history in possibly the Spanish city with the most history of them all.

Bullfighting week in Murcia |
The bull-fighting season comes to Murcia this week, with corridas every day from the 11th to the 19th. If you want to experience what many view as an integral part of Spanish culture, then now is your chance. It has recently been announced in Cataluña that bullfighting will be phased out there from next year, which could signal the end of this most Spanish of 'arts'.
