Cabo Roig

cabo roig harbour, Alicante, spain

The beautiful holiday resort of Cabo Roig sits on the Mediterranean coastline of the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain. Often called “the jewel of the Costa Blanca”, Cabo Roig is renowned for its fine sandy beaches, its luxurious detached villas and its prestigious marina. It is perhaps the most exclusive resort along this stretch of the Costa Blanca coastline.

The prominent watchtower, around which Cabo Roig originally developed, is now part of a restaurant complex which overlooks the recently refurbished marina. Approximately 2 million euros was spent on the modernisation of what is now one of the Costa Blanca’s most sought after marinas.

The two main beaches of Cabo Roig (Cala Caleta and Cala Capitan) are both extremely popular and are kept very clean and well maintained. The beach bar at Cala Caleta is a popular place for a tapas snack and even a midnight cocktail or two, during the hot summer months and is often open until 4am. Care must be taken whilst finding your way back to the main road, as this can be tricky by moonlight, especially when a little the worse for wear after several drinks.

caboroigislatagomago islandThere is a picturesque cliff walk from Cabo Roig to La Zenia. This walk offers some spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding coastline, with the view of sports resort La Manga spotted in the distance.

Work is currently being done on some stretches of the coastal path, notably at Playa Flamenca and La Zenia and the planned promenade should eventually run from Torrevieja all the way to Campoamor, it will then surely be one of the best walks along the Costa Blanca coastline, if not the entire coastline of Spain.

Cabo Roig and in fact the whole of the Costa Blanca, enjoys a wonderful climate and it is claimed to be the most temperate region in Spain. The area basks in well over 300 days of sun each year and enjoys an average temperature of approximately 20 degrees centigrade. There is very little rainfall in Cabo Roig and what does fall occurs mostly during the winter months.

The ever popular and developing Cabo Roig “strip” boasts a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants, with something to suit every taste. New commercials are opening up every month and this can only be good for the holidaymaker, as even more choice becomes available.

There is some new development going on in Cabo Roig as there is along the rest of the Orihuela Costa and Costa Blanca, but the old part of Cabo Roig is generally complete and mature and the area around the strip is mainly finished. Just inland of Cabo Roig the development continues and there is plenty of choice in the property market if that is the reason for your visit.

caboroigtowerCabo Roig is located on the N-332 coastal road between Torrevieja and Campoamor and is easily accessed from the A-37 motorway (Dehesa de Campoamor exit or La Zenia exit), it is handy for both Alicante (45 minutes) and Murcia (20 minutes) airports.
