La Manga Club will be the setting for a weekend of 20/20 cricket tournament of ten European teams from UK, Spain, Ireland and Belgium and a number of celebrities from the cricket and rugby world. The event is sponsored by the UK based Ideal Group (www.idealgroup.org.uk) and Murcia Villas. The selected charity for this years event will be Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research to offer support to the work done for this charity by England cricket legend Sir Ian Botham. Sir Ian will be represented over the weekend by his daughter Sarah together with sporting celebrities in attendance including England 20/20 World Cup winner Luke Wright, current England Lion and Surrey star Tom Maynard, current Surrey captain Rory Hamilton Brown and former England off spinner Gareth Batty as well as Indian test legend Farokh Engineer. Jeremy Pugh the former Welsh Prop represents the Rugby world and Paul Burnham (Founder of England famous cricket fans The Barmy Army) will be captaining the Barmy Army expat XI during the competition. The host of the charity dinner / auction on Saturday 24th September is Falklands veteran Simon Weston OBE. Tickets for this event, to be held at the Hotel Principe Felipe on La Manga Club are still available at the cost of 35euros which includes a 3 course meal and wine. A fantastic selection of auction and raffle prizes are offered, including signed memorabilia from Sir Ian Botham, Sachin Tendulkar, Pele and Mohammed Ali, as well as a current Manchester United signed squad shirt, tickets in corporate hospitality at next summers Lords test match (including flights) are also available as well as golf holidays, wine and many other prizes. The tournament commences with its first match at 10am on Friday, Saturday and culminates in finals day on Sunday 25th and there will be refreshment tent open all weekend; a Barmy Army merchandise stall and the chance to meet these stars from the sporting world.
